According to reports, sensitive customer information may have been compromised due to a breach at Cleo Communications, a vendor associated with Hertz. This incident allegedly occurred between October and December of the previous year, with the company becoming aware of it on February 10. After conducting a thorough investigation, Hertz concluded that personal details such as credit card numbers, driver’s licenses, contact information, and even Social Security or passport numbers could have been exposed. To mitigate potential risks, Hertz has partnered with Kroll to offer affected individuals two years of free identity-theft protection.

Simultaneously, Hertz has taken steps toward modernizing its operations by launching an automated AI inspection program. Collaborating with UVeye, the company aims to deploy cutting-edge scanning technology at major airports across the United States. Known as the "MRI for Vehicles," this technology captures comprehensive images of the interior, undercarriage, and tires, along with providing a full 360-degree scan capable of detecting minor damages like chips, cracks, and paint issues. The initiative will commence at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, expanding nationwide by year's end.

This move reflects Hertz's commitment to enhancing service reliability and customer satisfaction through advanced technology. By adopting AI-driven inspections, the company seeks to streamline manual processes traditionally prone to inconsistencies. Other industry players, including Avis and Enterprise, are reportedly evaluating similar solutions. Such innovations promise to revolutionize vehicle maintenance practices within the rental sector.
